One Lacy Knitted Scarf Pattern – Many Different Looks
This easy scarf pattern is one of my favorites. I’ve used it over and over with different yarns, creating a new look each time. My two newest scarf patterns used alpaca yarn
purchased from Julie Petty at Alpaca Meadows. Julie raises alpacas and spins the yarn herself. The yarn I used for this scarf pattern was a blend of suri and huacaya alpaca fleece, plus merino and a little bamboo. It was what I’d call a thick and thin type of yarn, very soft and luxurious.
For one of these knitted scarf patterns, I used only the Alpaca Meadows yarn and for the other one, I blended it with Gioiello fringy yarn, color 21 and Crystal Palace Squiggle yarn, color 9211. I also used a different size knitting needles to vary the pattern.
This is a lacy knitting pattern is super easy and looks good with just about any size or blend of yarns.

I used size 13 knitting needles for this one.
Cast on 10 stitches
Knit 2 rows
Row 3: K1, *yo, k2tog* repeating between * to last stitch, knit last stitch.
Row 4: knit across
Repeat row 3 and 4 until the scarf is the desired length, then knit 2 rows.
Cast off and weave in ends.
For the more fringy scarf, I used size 17 knitting needles and only cast on 8 stitches.
Cast on 8 stitches
Knit Row 1 and 2
Row 3 Knit 1, *yo, k2tog* to last stitch and knit last stitch.
Row 4 Knit
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until scarf is the desired length and knit 2 rows.
Cast off and weave in ends.
I’ve also made this lacy pattern with Sensations Boucle yarn but this one was wider. I cast on 32 stitches and knitted the pattern as above. I made 3 of these last Christmas for 3 of my daughters, all in different colors.
If you love alpaca yarn, I can highly recommend Julie Petty’s Alpaca Meadows yarn. She also has an Etsy store with lots of beautiful yarns available.

Is Alpaca yarn sturdy? I tried other ones but they easily break.

Thanks for your comment! I’ve always found alpaca yarn to be very sturdy, especially the hand dyed, hand spun alpaca yarns I’ve purchased on Etsy.com.

I love this pattern. With appropriate comments and instructions from Joan Jones, i was able to create different looks to the scarf. I also made 1 (now working on #2) wide scawrf and it is beautiful. I used some of the fringy which I had left along with a coordinating color and it is georgeous. Thank you Joan for this lovely scarf. It is going to make for some lovely hoiday presents. Hope to see more of your patterns in the future.

Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items, similar to wool.
These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety
of textiles and ponchos in South America, and sweaters,
socks, coats and bedding
in other parts of the world. The fiber comes in more than 52 natural colors as
classified in Peru, 12 as classified in Australia and 16 as classified in the United States.

Thanks so much for your comment! I love alpaca fiber for knitting and crocheting. Hats and scarves made from it are super warm and soft.
