bring out one of the colors. When I started this easy baby blanket pattern, I didn’t know whether our grandchild would be a  boy or a girl so I chose yarn with both pink and blue. During the knitting of the blanket, I found out the baby would be a girl but the blanket pattern seemed to pick up more blue so it looked more like a baby boy’s blanket. I solved the problem by crocheting a pink edging around the blanket so the pink was amplified.

To make this blanket, I used my easy baby blanket pattern. With this pattern, you begin with 5 stitches and increase - basically until you can’t stand to do another row or until you run out of time - and then you decrease. I used a size 9 circular knitting needle and 4 skeins of Baby Bee Sweet Baby Delight yarn and each skein was 377 yards. I used 2 strands to knit with also, so basically, I increased until I’d used 2 skeins of yarn and then I decreased. for the pink trim I didn’t need much pink yarn so just used some leftover pink yarn from another project that matched.

I don’t know a lot about crochet so I just did a single crochet around the edging of the blanket and then did a round of double crochet and tied it off. If you’re a knitter and don’t know how to crochet, there are some great video’s on YouTube on How to Crochet.

This simple knitted baby blanket pattern is easy to make and, depending on the yarn you use, can create many different looks. I’ll also add a photo of the same pattern using Lion Brand Jiffy yarn and Sensations Rainbow Boucle in a matching color.

I blended 2 strands of yarn together to make a very heavy duty baby blanket. Actually it turned out heavier than I intended and so I probably should have used larger needles to make it looser. However, it was still pretty and much appreciated by the new mom, which is all that counted.

So you can see how you can create new looks with a simple pattern by choosing different yarns or embellishing edgings to bring out different colors.
