List of Felted Bowl Patterns Online
I still haven’t made my felted bowl but I’ve decided that now’s the time! I came up with a list of free felted bowl patterns from around the internet and some that aren’t free but aren’t very expensive either. I’m going to choose one pattern to create my bowl. I recently purchased a felted bead kit from Julie Petty at Alpaca Meadows, which also makes felted eggs so my idea is to knit and felt a bowl/basket and add the felted eggs to it for Easter.
Here is a list of free felted bowl patterns I found online and wanted to share:
Deborah Does Naval Gazing Cute bowl, complete finishing and felting instructions.
Deborah’s felted bowl pattern with weft
Knitvana this felted bowl pattern looks fairly easy.
MaryLou’s Yarn This felting pattern is actually an Easter Basket with a handle. Really cute!
Heavy Duty Designs with Alice*Thelma This felting pattern is actually four nesting bowls so you get a pattern for four different bowl sizes, or you can make them all!
Hither and Yarn – This is a cute little felted bowl pattern that seems pretty easy to make.
Knit with KT This is billed as a felted “platter”. It’s 12 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches deep. Reallly pretty.
Berroco.com This is actually a felted flower pot pattern but you could certainly turn it into a bowl or basket.
About.com can always be counted on for great free knitting patterns. Here is their pattern for a felted bowl.
Photos of felted bowls for Inspiration
Carol Bristol Designs offers a great slide show of felted bowls and other things for inspiration. There are some beautiful photos on this site of felted bowls, vases and more but it’s a little confusing. I think you’re supposed to pay for the patterns but I never found a place to either order or get patterns. It seems to be just photos. However, they are beautiful and may give you some great ideas.
Etsy.com also has lots of felted bowls to purchase, or you can purchase patterns from some of the sellers. The photos are wonderful and you can use these for inspiration also. Most of the felted bowl patterns available on Etsy.com are under $5 and many are under $3 so if you see one you like, it won’t cost much. I like to support the artists on Etsy too whenever I can.
One book on felting I found and can recommend, (which isn’t free but well worth the money) is called Uniquely Felt. It’s available on Amazon.com and offers info and instruction on all aspects of felting.
I think the felted bowl pattern I’m going to make is the one on AlicaThelma’s blog. I purchased some Patons’ wool yarn on sale a while back just to make my bowl and it will look great as a basket for my felted eggs.
Stay tuned for photos!
