Life in Texas – Knitting and Christmas
This Christmas, I knitted scarves and caps for the grand kids and scarves for the daughters so I was really busy! We also had a white Christmas here in North Texas, which

hasn’t happened in 35 years. It was really cozy and Christmasy to see the snow falling on Christmas eve and Christmas day, although the roads were treacherous on Christmas eve – very icy.
My 3 year old granddaughters loved the scarves and hats I made for them. For the scarves, I just cast on 15, using size 13 knitting needles, and did a straight stitch until it was long enough. Then I added fringe. I knitted matching hats on size 16 circular knitting needles. I didn’t have enough of each yarn to make a matching hat and scarf so I crocheted a hat edging in the same yarn as the scarf and put some of the hat yarn on the scarf as fringe. I’d planned just to do hats so only bought enough yarn for hats but my daughter said she thought the kids would love scarves too so I improvised.

Snow in Texas Christmas morning
The snow actually stuck around for a day or so and we’re expected to get more this week – maybe an inch. I know to people in the upper Midwest and northeast this seems like a tiny amount of snow! We don’t usually see snow in Texas though so we’re happy to get a little bit to remind us of a white Christmas.
Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to get back to the exercise classes at the Y to burn off those couple extra pounds of Christmas cookies and sweet snacks! I have several new knitting projects on the needles already, including a scarf for myself. With all the knitting for other people, I never seem to have time for myself. I’m also making baby blankets for a new granddaughter who will be born in February.
Photos of those next time! Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
