I got three skeins of alpaca yarn at Edwina’s Nitch, when I was visiting Burlington, MA recently and I wanted a fairly easy scarf pattern to knit with it. Since I’m new to knitting, I always check out the level of difficulty and the stitches

called for in the pattern and this one looks like something I can handle.

I got this pattern from Knitting On The Net in their free patterns. One thing I liked about this pattern is that it can be any width and length - I can use my alpaca yarn til it runs out! I’m already developing a yarn stash from left over bits of yarn so it’s nice to have way to use up all that I bought at once.

Another reason I love this pattern is that is says “Use any yarn desire and needles appropriate to the weight of the yarn. Stitches per inch x desired width=number of sts to CO”

Did I mention I have a hard time following patterns? I love freeform and usually just learn enough basic stuff to go off on my own. I spent many years as a passionate beader and rarely ever made anything with an intricate pattern. I discovered free form peyote and it seemed made for me.

I can only hope that someday my weaving and knitting expertise gets to where my beading experience was. Since I got caught up in blogging and creating websites, I haven’t had as much time for beading as I used to.

Now back to using my alpaca yarn. Here are the instructions for the scarf pattern I’m knitting with it. I’ll post photos along the way once I get going on it.

Instructions:

CO an even number of sts.

Update: I started the above pattern using my Alpaca yarn and size 11 needles to make it loose and flowing.

Here are a few more photos of my bead work. I took classes on beading and weaving at a place called The Shephardess in San Diego, Ca. I had wonderful teachers there and after learning the basics, I kind of took off on my own.
