Knitted Hat Pattern for Kids
I’ve been busily knitting for Christmas this year and I needed a knitted hat pattern for kids that would fit

Handknitted ribbed children's hat and scarf
a 6 year old and a 3 year old so I used this ribbed hat pattern, which is pretty stretchy. I have 2 grandaughters who are 3 years old so one gets a red hat and scarf and one gets a pink hat and scarf.
I was just going to do knitted hats for each child, then both my daughters mentioned how much the kids love scarves. I didn’t have enough hat yarn to do a whole scarf so I edged the hats in Sensations Angel Hair in colors to match and will put fringe for each scarf with the hat yarn.
For the hats, I used Muench Tessin yarn, which is 43% superwash wool, 35% acrylic and 22% cotton. Since I keep losing my yarn labels, and never knew what type of yarn ended up in which project, I’ve developed a system of writing the project name on the back of each label and keeping them all in one place.
I also used size 10 1/2 16″ circular needles.
Here’s the kid’s knitted hat pattern I used.
Cast on 72 stitches. Knit one row, then attach ends into a circle on circular needles. Be very careful not to twist.
Knit ribbing for 6 inches. Knit two, purl two in rows until piece reached 6 inches.

Haven't added the trim and fringe yet to this one.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread tail and thread through each stitch remaining on needle. Pull tightly, tie off and weave end into piece.
So that the hat would match the scarf, I crocheted a couple rows of edging onto the hat with the Angel Hair yarn. I’m not much of a crocheter, but can handle single and double crochet for simple projects.
For the scarves, I simply cast on 15 stitches of Sensations Angel Hair yarn, using size 11 needles and knitted it in straight knitting to desired length. I added the scarf fringe from the hat yarn.
