I’ve been using a circular loom, or a knifty knitter, for some time to make scarves but I’ve recently discovered all the many wonderful projects, especially for babies that you can make with these terrific knitting looms.

I knitted one baby hat that I wasn’t very happy with so I decided to hit YouTube for some tutorials and

found this one, How to Make a Baby Hat Start to Finish Tutorial. It isn’t one that has thousands of hits, but it did go from beginning to end and was easy to follow.

I found out one interesting thing as I watched it. I’d been using the tool wrong. I was hooking the yarn with the tip of the needle, which bent it out of shape quickly instead of doing it the way it was shown in the video.

When using the circular loom I’d never thought of using two pieces of yarn to make it thicker. When I knitted scarves, I’d used one yarn and one strand of something like Fun Fur, to give the scarf some more texture but hadn’t tried two strands of yarn.

I bought a book on using the circular loom with patterns but discovered that they’ve found a way to make this complicated! There are many techniques in this book that sound like Greek to me. That’s why I turned to YouTube knitting videos for a visual on using this loom.

I’m still working on my baby blanket and am also trying baby booties on the circular loom.
