I wanted to knit a hat for my granddaughter, who loves hats, but I have a terrible time following patterns. I’d used the Knifty Knitter, also called a Circle Loom, to make scarves and everyone in my family has one by now. When I was at Joann’s recently, I saw a book of patterns for the Knifty Knitter which talked about knitting a hat on one. I bought Knifty Knitter Round Loom Set w/Hook & Pick Tool, 4/Pkg since I only had one size for adult hats.

I also bought the entire pack of Knifty Knitters because one of the sizes included is the one for toddler hats.

I even had some fun yarn to knit the hat with. My granddaughter is only two and a half, but quite the fashionista already.

Along with the yarn I had, I added a few rows here and there of Fun Fur yarn to get even more fluff to this knitted hat. The entire hat only took me two evenings.

One hint I have for a Circle Loom knitted project is to keep the yarn wound only loosely around the pegs because if the yarn is tight, you have a terrible time lifting the yarn over the top of the peg and it makes your wrist ache after a while.

Since I’ve only done scarves previously on the Knifty Knitter, I was amazed to discover all the things you

could do with different sizes, even baby booties. Since I have two new grandchildren on the way, this will come in handy. The blue circle loom is a perfect size for baby hats too.

Here’s a great book I found on Amazon which is economical and teaches the basics of knitting on the circle loom Learn to Knit on Circle Looms

I had to put my freeform knitting projects on the back burner for a while, until I have more time to really focus on learning something new.
