years as a bead artist and I had a great deal of trouble with patterns there as well. What I usually did was master a stitch and then take off on my own or look at a pattern and figure out a variation so I could just bead, without worrying about patterns.

The wonders of freeform knitting seem endless. I am currently making another baby blanket for my daughter and will just piece together a series of freeform pieces to form the blanket.

I tried knitting a baby blanket with a pattern and the one I did with just the garter stitch turned out great. When I tried a pattern though with a series of 11 rows repeated, I got hopelessly lost in the process. After unraveling my blanket a few times, I decided patterns weren’t for me.

I’d never heard of freeform knitting but stumbled across Prudance Mapstone’s blog Knot Just Knitting and if you’ve never seen her work, you should check it out. I got a couple tutorials on freeform through her website which got me started. I’ve also ordered her book “Never too Many Handbags” which tells how to do freeform knitted handbags. Can’t wait til it comes!

I’ll keep you posted on my freeform knitting adventures.
