My first dishcloth pattern ended up being a simple and easy one and, while it isn’t quite finished, I like the way it’s turning out. I used Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn with

Knit first 2 rows for border
Row 2 Knit 2 purl 2 across
Row 3 Knit 2, then knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pattern, until you get the dishcloth as large as you want it and then knit the last 2 rows for an edging.

My 3 year old granddaughter was visiting this week. Her mom just had a baby about 7 weeks ago so McKenzie comes to Grandma’s house to play and give mom a break. I had a triangle scarf and hat laying with my dog leashes on the table so I could suit up to take the dogs for a walk and she decided to try them on and play “mommie.” McKenzie is a tiny fashionista, always changing clothes and putting together odd clothing combos that seem to work.

Having grandchildren has added a new aspect to my knitting adventures. Hats look so cute on little girls and babies. My grandson got a hat and scarf for Christmas, as did the girls. He gave me a rather odd look but I don’t know how to knit a Transformer! Wish I could find a pattern for one.

I’ve found I love knitting patterns to give as gifts. While I’m knitting, I am thinking of that person, putting loving energy into the stitches. Even knitting a simple thing like a dishcloth has new meaning when I think of my daughter using it in her new home.

Knitting is meditative that way. You’re focused on creating something and putting a part of yourself into it.

I’ve also been thinking lately that it will be fun to introduce the granddaughters to knitting when the time comes (and the grandson too if his dad will let him-lol) I used to have my

own home daycare and crafts were a big part of our day. Even very little ones could string beads or glue popcicle sticks. I think the girls are a little young to start knitting but we do go to Joanns and browse the yarn so hopefully they’ll come to love creating things with their hands like I do. I think that would be a great legacy to leave to them.
