Free Afghan Knitting Patterns and My New Afghan Projects
I wanted to make an afghan for my mom for her birthday and one for my daughter’s godmother so I tried two different, but easy afghan knitting patterns. Knitting afghans can be as simple as knitting a scarf but, while scarves seem to take forever to knit sometimes, making an afghan can really seem endless. I admit I have to add in other smaller projects and return to the afghans until I get too close to the day the gift is needed, then I knit like a fiend to finish it.
My first afghan is made of Jiffy yarn and Sensations Boucle on size 13 circular knitting needles. I bought the large Boucle and about 7 Jiffy yarn skeins. For this pattern, I simply used my easy baby blanket pattern and I’m making it bigger. This way, I can knit the pattern in the increasing until I tired of it, then I begin decreasing, which goes faster. This makes a nice knitted afghan pattern just by using heavier yarn and making it larger than the baby blanket.
My second afghan knitting pattern is also easy. I used some Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky Hot Rod Pink #551 I purchased from Alpaca Direct especially for this project, and a
lavender metallic yarn (Can’t even remember where I got this yarn and I’ve lost the label-lol). I used size 13 circular knitting needles for this one also. Here is the afghan knitting pattern I’m using for this one.
Cast on 120 stitches
Knit 3 Rows for an edging.
Row 4 Knit2, Purl 2 all the way across.
Continue the pattern of Row 4 until the afghan is as large as you want it, then knit 3 rows to finish and cast off.
I have to admit, when it comes to knitting patterns, I’m into simple and basic. I usually knit when I watch TV and I’ve tried to do more complicated patterns and always end up getting lost.
If you’d like to look at more free afghan knitting patterns, here are some I found on the Internet that I really like:

My daughter’s godmother’s birthday is May 4 so I really need to finish that one quickly, especially since it has to be mailed to Indiana.
When I finish my knitted afghans, I’ll be sure and post photos, as well as adding more links to patterns as I find them.

Thanks for asking Marsha. I added the name of the yarn to the post in case anyone else wanted to know. The alpaca yarn I used was Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky Hot Rod Pink #551 from Alpaca Direct.
Thank so much for your comment.
